PhotoArch is very much about taking part. Every photograph which is submitted appears online and the enjoyment and education comes from participation. However, PhotoArch feeds into the International Heritage Photographic Competition (see 'Our Common Heritage' in the main menu above), and so two images are chosen to be part of the international catalogue and exhibition.
The winners of this year's competition were: Samuel Eatough (7) of Ruchill Autism Unit in Glasgow for the Primary Schools Category; and Sarah Cowie (14) of Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen for the Secondary Schools category.
The winners attended a prize-giving ceremony at The Lighthouse in Glasgow, with special guest Fiona Hyslop MSP, Minister for Culture and External Affairs. They received a digital camera each, as well as one for their school.
The Minister said: “I am so impressed by the skill and talent that both Samuel and Sarah have shown with their entries. Both pictures are remarkable, using light and artistry to make absolutely captivating images... We can all be hugely proud that Sarah and Samuel will be representing Scotland in the International Heritage Photographic Experience.”
The entries were judged by John Pelan, Director of the Scottish Civic Trust; Ruth Parsons, Chief Executive of Historic Scotland and Julia Belgutay, journalist at the Times Educational Supplement Scotland.
